This just goes to show how life experience and situation affect our thinking. That little prompt will be interpreted differently by everyone who sees it. I'd have never made the connection between one deep breath and ether, but of course it's obvious why it came to mind for you. :)
Great haiku, rel, and perfect pictures to accompany it. Thankfully medicine has advanced since then, though! A modern day operating room doesn't look half as scary as that set up in the lower picture. Eeep! The former nurse in me is going all OCD at the lack of infection control! There are swarms of bacteria lurking everywhere, people. Gloves, gowns, buckets of disinfectant, please!! ;)
Fantastic haiku, Rel - great take on the prompt, if a little spooky. I'm always afraid of being knocked out completely, no matter how skillful the anesthesist; I always worry I won't wake up! :)
I still remember when I was 6 and got my tonsils out.....they put that mask over my face and I thought I was gonna die......and it had an odor to it....yikes....scary for a 6 year old kid!!! The last time they just put something in my IV and I was in la la land....that was much better! But I dont like to be put to sleep...what if the anesthesis ( sp) had a bad day or a rough night???? just give me enough to make me simple. ( simpler) lol
I still say ether, even the way it was given in that picture, is better than just drinking a bottle of rye and having to endure the surgery while still awake!! lol I always look forward to your haiku, wondering what your take will be on the prompt!! You are so interesting Rel!! Thank you for your kind words about the Blog of the Day award...the best prize is the friends like you that I have made through my blog! Hugs xox

Cool and simultaneously kind of creepy.
Thanks!
Great take on this prompt - although that old drawing kind of gave me the shivers!
Does the Haiku create the photos or the photos create the Haiku?
Too deep of thoughts for a Monday morning...I need a drink. :)

Excellent and disturbing.
What a fitting take on the prompt for you. I love the photo of the ether can.

Challenging prompt--love what you've done with it! (Also, that picture of the ether--where did you take that picture? How wild!)
--D.--
Very cool. I happen to work in Boston near the place where ether was invented. There is a statue in the park dedicated to ether.
This post is like a collage! A blog collage.
Very inspiring.
