"Friendship"
There is a greater story here
That won't be told today.
Suffice to shed a sad, sad tear,
To a friendship gone astray!
Friendship's not convenient
Friendship isn't sore
Friendship is what stays behind
When convenient is out the door.
We met two score and ten or so;
At knuckles end we met.
And from that day, so long ago
Our bond is stronger yet.
In those same years with little fuss,
Another acquaint' was made.
Then circumstance rejoined us
Some thirty years gone fade.
One, a friendship of the heart,
A second was convenient.
One can ne'er be cleaved apart,
The other simply; rent.

so very true.. and how very lucky you are to have known that.....
what an intruiging thought... to own a pc of anothers heart...others merely rent.
A very precise and clever way to look at that.
Very nice Rel. As one who has no connection to the past, I am glad that friendships sometimes last.
What a nifty post - truth and life in a few wonderfully worded stanzas. Great!
A joy to read!
Amazing how such joy can turn to pain. Friends' hurtfulness hurts more than a stranger's.
It is sweet that the tender memories of friendship floated beyond the opening stanza.
(Did I understand your Writers Island comment that led us here?)
Nice. What a great pome - as usual.
Friendship, twisted like a wet rag is the way it felt. This is such a 'guys' poem to me. Neat.
that was a great read...it made me smile...and that's a good thing
Well done and a joy to read!
Great last stanza! I loved reading it.
Ah beautiful Rel, I love the stanza
"Friendship's not convenient
Friendship isn't sore
Friendship is what stays behind
When convenient is out the door."
And fortunate are those who hath found such gem of a relatinship, thank you.
Beautiful Rel, if only people would get it ... Thank YOU for such poignance.
