BLM (Bob LaRock Matters)
BLM. (Bob LaRock matters)
As a Caucasian I’m lumped into the “white privilege” group; implying that I, unlike some others, was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and therefore untainted by discrimination. When we have more time I’ll relate to you the discrimination that members of America’s white lower middle class were/are subject to.
That in no way is meant to diminish the complaint that POC are disproportionately discriminated against.
You will notice that I have so far segregated here two groups of people by color.
We are all aware that the issue that has brought this topic to the top of the crisis pile today is the cry of police brutality, in a general sense, but more specifically police brutality of black people. I readily agree with the premise that blacks are “profiled” more by the police than white people. The data doesn’t prove out that they are killed more often.
When the question is asked; what do the protesters want? The answer predominately is, put a stop to police brutality and stop discriminating against POC. The inference is that they want to be treated equally.
In the effort to do this they segregate the populace into groups: black, indigenous and other people of color, BIPOC and of course, the white privileged class.
So their effort to bring about inclusivity starts out by segregating us into groups; BIPOC, religion, cultural upbringing, native country, (black lives matter, blue lives matter, all lives matter)etc..
Seems incongruent to me that to want people to be treated equitably means first segregating them into groups.
I expect people to act responsibly. But I accept human frailty and that even in the best of circumstances we will fail in that expectation. Given more trying and stressful circumstances the instances of irresponsibility will multiply; across ALL groups.
That said, I won’t stigmatize 10s of thousands of law enforcement people by the irresponsible action of a minority of their members. This can be extrapolated ad infinitum.
Simply stated; segregating people by color, religion, culture, profession etc. will fail always to bring about the goals of equality, liberty, and justice for all.
